KNEB CONDUCTS MEDIA TRAINING ON NUCLEAR ENERGY REPORTING

For three-days between 28-30 November 2016, journalists drawn from various media houses swapped the pens, microphones and keyboards of the newsrooms for a lecture room setting.

This was during a workshop on reporting nuclear energy, which was organized by the Kenya Nuclear Electricity Board in conjunction with the International Atomic Energy Agency at the Sarova Whitesands Hotel and Spa, Mombasa County.

More than fifty journalists drawn from various media houses, as well as a representative from the Media Council of Kenya, attended the training. It focused on imparting concepts regarding electricity generation from nuclear energy, economics of nuclear, focus on safety aspects of nuclear power plants. In addition, the training illuminated radiation and its various forms and manifestations, as well as the present status and future outlook for nuclear power generation worldwide and a historical perspective of the three nuclear accidents that have occurred in history: Three Mile Island, New York, USA in 1979; Chernobyl in Ukraine in 1986 and Fukushima Da-ichi in Japan in 2011.
