NuPEA Engages Engineers at the Engineering Partnerships Convention

Theme: Promoting Collaboration and Awareness for a Sustainable Energy Future

The Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA), sponsored and participated in the Engineering Partnerships Convention (EPC), organized by the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) fromm 14th to 16th June, 2023 at the Sawela Lodge Hotel

The Convention was officially opened by His Excellency Dr. William Samoei Ruto, C.G.H. who stated in his opening remarks that, “Engineering is our growth’s bedrock; the link between a country’s engineering capacity  and its development is well established.”  He also noted that the Government was committed to developing an optimal engineering capacity to support the sustainable development in the country.  Cabinet Secretaries Kipchumba Murkomen, Zacharia Njeru, Governors Susan Kihika, James Orengo, Executive Director of the UN-Habitat Maimunah Mohd Sharif, Representative of the Country Director World Bank Ragini Dalal, IEK President and NuPEA’s Director for Nuclear Energy and Infrastructure Development, Eng. Erick Ohaga were present.

The three-day event provided an excellent platform to foster collaborations and create awareness on the Agency’s mandate within the engineering community, and the industry’s future role in the nuclear power programme. The convention brought together over 2000 participants including policymakers, industry experts, academicians, reseachers, trade-in services experts, and Kenyan engineers to create dialogue, reflection, and partnerships that will strengthen Kenya’s engineering education, training, and practice.  The convention created avenue for participants to explore ways to drive progress in the enginering and energy sectors.

NuPEA exhibited at the convention with Senior Engineer, Elvis Njenga and Publicity and Advocacy Officer, Irene Njoroge interacting with participants, showcasing the Agency’s commitment to clean and sustainable power generation through nuclear energy. It provided an opportunity for the team to address concerns regarding nuclear energy technology while creating awareness on the progress and milestones achieved to-date on Kenya’s nuclear power programme. The convention provided a valuable networking opportunity for NuPEA whilst laying the foundation for future partnerships and collaborations that will contribute to the advancement of the programme.
