CHRP Benedict Njuguna is the Manager, Human Resource and Administration at the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA). With over 10 years of experience in Human Resource and Administration in the public sector, Mr. Njuguna has held positions such as Principal Human Resource and Administration Officer and Senior Human Resource Officer at NuPEA.
Mr. Njuguna holds a Master of Arts in International Studies and a Bachelor of Arts degree, both from the University of Nairobi. Additionally, he possesses a higher National Diploma in Human Resources Management from the College of Human Resource Management.
He is a Certified Human Resource Professional (CHRP-K) and practicing member of the Institute of Human Resource Management (IHRM).
Amb. Simon Nabukwesi has a B.Ed, M. Ed. in Education Planning and Management and MA in International Project Management. He is a PhD Candidate in International Project Management. In addition to this, he has a Diploma Level training in Institutional Management at Hiroshima University, Japan and a Pre-university Training at the National Youth Service (1986). With this training, Simon has had a successful career as a High School Teacher, as a Deputy Principal and Principal in a span of twenty years (1989-2009). He has also served as Kenya’s High Commissioner to Canada and Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extra-ordinary to Cuba. His eleven (11) years of service as a diplomat included being the Director of Foreign Service Institute which he worked to transform into the Foreign Service Academy for training Junior Diplomats, Middle level Diplomats, Senior Diplomats and eight (8) Cohorts of Ambassadors whom he took through induction courses. The Foreign Service Academy served as a soft power tool for the government by training diplomats and ambassadors from the Eastern, Central and Southern Africa in addition to coordination of scholarships from friendly nations. This made members of the Association of directors of Foreign Service Academies from the IGAD Region to vote Nabukwesi to be their Chairperson, from 2016 to 2019 when he left the Academy to head Europe and Commonwealth Directorate in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Amb.Nabukwesi was appointed to the position of Principal Secretary, State Department of University Education and Research with effect from 28th February, 2020. He is optimistic about working with all stakeholders to improve University Education and Research.
He is a lecturer at University of Eldoret, School of Environmental Studies. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree, Environmental Health from University of Eldoret, Master of Science, Integrated Pollution Control from Middlesex University, UK and Bachelor of Science (Hons), Environmental Management from University of North London (London Metropolitan University), UK. He has over 10 years of teaching experience from Kenyan academic institutions. He is a member of the Institute of Environmental Science of UK, a registered Environmental Impact Assessment/Audit Lead Expert with National Environmental Management Authority (NEMA), member of Forest Society of Kenya and is trained implementer of ISO 9000 Standards by Kenya Bureau of Standard.
Henry K. Rono is a board member at NUPEA. He is also a senior lecturer at the Kenyatta University on industrial development, industrial sociology, research, statistics and information sciences. He holds a Ph.D.in industrial development from McGill University (Canada), M.A degree in industrial development and information science from the University of Calgary (Canada) and B.A degree in industrial sociology.
Dr Rono has been a principal consultant in a number of projects including social and environmental assessment of the Kwale Titanium Mining, the South Lokichar Oil Exploration, the Kerio Valley Fluorspar Mining, the growth of the micro-enterprises in Eldoret Municipality. Other projects have included development of e-learning infrastructure for the proposed National Open University of Kenya, e-learning infrastructure for the State Department of Technical and Vocational Training, Education Management Information System for the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Management Information Systems for the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture.
Dr Rono has also been a board member for a number of state corporations including National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), Horticulture Development Authority (HDA), and Kerio Valley Development Authority (KVDA).
Eng. Samson Maundu is a partner and a Director at Rex Consultants Ltd in charge of Electrical, Electronics and Telecommunications. He holds a Bsc degree in Electrical & Electronics Engineering from the University of Nairobi
Eng. Maundu is a practicing Consultant and a member of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) with wide experience in both low and high voltage engineering systems
Eng. Maundu previously worked at the then Ministry of Public Works where he rose from an Assistant Engineer to a provincial Engineer where he was in charge of 19 districts.
Mr. Arthur Omondi Koteng is a Board Member of NuPEA, chairing the Audit Committee and sits in the Human Resource and General Purpose Committee. He holds a Masters Degree in Radiation & Environmental Protection from the University of Surrey, United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics from the University of Nairobi.
Mr. Koteng is the Director & Consultant Physicist at Canon Radiological Services Limited that offers Radiation Protection, Nuclear Safety & Security services to several practices countrywide in the fields of Medicine, Industry, Research and Teaching.
He has previously worked in the Kenya Nuclear Regulatory Authority under Ministry of Health as Head of Nuclear Safeguards Department and serves as an Advisory Committee Member of the International Nuclear and Radiological Event Scale (INES) of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA). He is a trustee of the Africa Cancer Foundation and a member of the Eastern Africa Association for Radiation Protection (EAARP). He has vast experience in this field having worked under the nuclear regulator for 33 years
Elizabeth M. Lenjo is a practicing Advocate of the High Court of Kenya. She specializes in Intellectual Property Law, Entertainment Law, Media Law, Technology Law and Fashion Law. She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) from the University of Turin (Italy) in conjunction with World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Academy and a Bchelor of Laws (LL.B) from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa (C.U.E.A) and a Post-Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law.
Ms. Lenjo runs her own legal consulting firm, MyIP Legal Studio which conducts legal advisory and capacity building workshops on Intellectual Property Law.
Ms. Lenjo is a member of the Law Society of Kenya (L.S.K) where she has served in the Intellectual Property and ICT Law Committee between 2018 to 2022 and International Trademark Association (INTA).
Mr. Paul Mwangi is an Assistant Director of Education, State Department for University Education and Research (SDUE&R). He holds a MSc. (Pure Mathematics) from Kenyatta University and BEd. (SC) from Egerton University.
Mr Mwangi is practicing education management and administration in the division of Local University and Administrative Services, Directorate of University Education, Ministry of Education.
He has previously worked as a Senior Quality Assurance and Standards Officer, Ministry of Education. He has served in the Councils/Boards of Egerton University, Murang’a University of Technology, Machakos University and South Eastern Kenya University as an Alternate to the Principal Secretary (SDUE&R).
The Principal Secretary joins the State Department for Energy with a wealth of experience from the private sector where he worked variously as an investment banker. His latest assignment was with Faida Investment Bank where he traded and structured Treasury bonds and Corporate bonds at the Nairobi Stock Exchange (NSE). Other assignments include working with Dyer & Blair Investment Bank and Genghis Capital limited in the same capacity.
PS Wachira has served in various leadership’s positions right from his university days. He was a founding member of the Bonds Market Association as well as a member of the Steering Committee of the Kenya Association of Stock Brokers and Investment Bankers (KASIB). His contribution to the Bond’s market saw him being appointed to the Central Depository Project at the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK). In 2021, the project dealt in government securities worth 900 billion, the highest turnover ever in Kenya.
The PS launched his career in the financial sector after participating in the issuance of the Safaricom IPO in 2008 where he interned. He had prior completed a Bsc Degree course from the University of Nairobi. At Campus, he served as the Secretary General NUNSA and Treasurer for the Confederation of Medical Students Association. He is currently pursuing an MA in Leadership at Pan African Christian University.
A strong believer in servant leadership through community engagement and development, in that position, the PS was able to spearhead initiatives such, as free medical camps for Cancer Screening, Tree planting, Youth Mentorship Programmes, and Sports Tournaments among others. Born and bred in Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County, the PS is a family man who’s strict up bringing is instrumental in shaping him into the person he is.
FA Joseph Mwaura Kamau is an economist in the National Treasury, Department of Government Investment and Public Enterprises. Alternate to the Principal Secretary of National Treasury on the NuPEA Board. He holds a Masters of Finance MBA (Finance) from KAIST (South Korea) and Masters in Economics, Finance & Banking (Financial Sector Policy) from Moi University. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mathematics and Economics from the University of Nairobi.
FA Joseph Mwaura is a Financial Analyst and a member of Institute of Certified Investment and Financial Analyst (CIFA). He has vast knowledge and understanding in Finance, Economics and Investments. He has previously worked at Equity Bank (K) Ltd and Standard Chartered Bank (K) Ltd.
CS Serah is an Advocate of the High Court, Commissioner for Oaths, Notary Public and Certified Secretary with at least fourteen years work experience. She holds a Master of Laws (LLM) Degree from the University of Kwazulu Natal, South Africa, Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, A Post Graduate Diploma from the Kenya School of Law. She is a practicing member of the Law Society of Kenya, and the Institute of Certified Secretaries respectively. She has served as a Corporation Secretary and Head of Legal Services at the Kenya Institute of Supplies Management and the Technical University of Mombasa with over ten years experience in the public sector. She was awarded First Runners Up in the Public Sector Lawyer of the year award 2022, under the Law Society of Kenya, Nairobi Branch.
Lawrence Siele is the Manager, ICT at the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency.
His past experience includes: Head of ICT Mount Kenya University, Nakuru Campus, Senior Systems Developer at Kabarak University and ICT Manager at Kabarak University.
He holds a Master’s Degree in Information Systems and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science. He holds a Diploma in Project Management and Diploma in Database Management. He also holds professional qualifications in Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), PRINCE2, PMP and Cybersecurity.
Lawrence is a member of the Computer Society of Kenya (CSK), Information Technology Professionals Association (ITPA) and Internet Society (ISOC) Kenyan Chapter.
Dr. Winfred Ndubai is the Director, Strategy & Planning at the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency.
She has 20 years of experience in Kenya’s power sector. Previously, she worked for Kenya’s largest power generating utility, the Kenya Electricity Generating Company, in a role that focused on business development, strategic planning, and analysis of the company’s operations as Chief Business Strategy Officer.
Dr. Winnie holds a Ph.D. in Finance, a Master’s Degree in Finance and a Bachelor of Economics Degree from the University of Nairobi, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Financial Management from the Maastricht School of Management in the Netherlands. At the Agency, she worked at the technical directorate for eight years, four as the head of the directorate. She was involved in conducting technical studies for Kenya’s nuclear power programme including the pre-feasibility study, development of a 15-year nuclear power programme roadmap, and overseeing the development of policies and strategies for various aspects of the NPP, among other activities.
Upon her appointment to head the Strategy and Planning directorate in 2019, she has spearheaded the development of the Agency’s five-year strategic plan that encompasses additional roles of coordination of research, development and capacity building in the energy and petroleum sectors.
Eng. Erick Ohaga is currently the Director, Nuclear Energy Infrastructure Development at Nuclear Power and Energy Agency (NuPEA). Previously worked at the Kenya Power and Lighting PLC, and rose through the ranks to the position of county Business Manager. He has over 16 years’ vast experience in Energy Policy development, Nuclear policy and strategy formulation, design, construction, contract management, operations, maintenance and planning of power systems. Eng. Ohaga has intense experience in power purchase contract administration and regional power trade and participated in the development of the Kenya’s standardized Power Purchase Agreement for Renewable Energy Sources under the Feed-in-Tariff regime. He developed the Kenya Distribution Master Plan 2015-2020.
He holds MSc in Nuclear Engineering (KINGS), Masters of Business Administration, BSc. in Electrical/Electronic Engineering and post graduate diploma in Project Planning and management. He serves in council of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) as the Vice President. He is a Fellow of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya and a consulting Engineer with Engineers Board of Kenya. He chairs the membership committee of IEK and national interviewing panel member of Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Eng. Ohaga is a certified coach/mentor and certified personal development analyst (SA). He is an associate member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (UK), and full member of Kenya Institute of Management (KIM).
Ms Caren Oduor is the Manager, Finance and Accounts at the Nuclear Power and Energy Agency.
Caren has a vast experience in Finance and accounting from both public and private sectors which includes; Chief Accountant at Salaries and Remuneration Commission, Senior Accountant at Rural Electrification Authority and also Senior Accountant at New KCC. Caren also worked as Accounts Manager at Siemens NV and at Worldspace Corporation as a Chief Accountant.
Caren holds a Master’s Degree in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Commerce(Accounting option)degree both from the University of Nairobi.
She is a Certified Public Accountant of Kenya – CPA (K) and a member of Institute of Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), and a member of Assciation of Women Accountants of Kenya (AWAK)
Dr. Julius Muia is the Principal Secretary at The National Treasury. Prior to this, he was the Principal Secretary at the State Department for Planning – The National Treasury and Planning. Before his appointment as PS Planning, he was the Director General, Vision 2030 Delivery Secretariat which operated under the Office of the President, Republic of Kenya to facilitate the implementation of Vision 2030. This is Kenya’s long-term policy framework that is premised on making Kenya a globally competitive, rapidly industrializing and upper middle income economy by 2030. Between April 2008 and October 2016, Dr. Muia served as the Secretary, National Economic and Social Council, Office of the President. This is a top advisory government think tank whose flagship project was formulating Vision 2030. An alumnus of the University of Nairobi’s School of Business, Dr Julius Muia graduated with a First Class Honours Degree in Accounting; Masters Degree and PhD in Finance from the same university. His professional qualifications include: Certified Public Accountant (CPA-K); Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K), Associate Kenya Institute of Bankers; Associate Chartered Institute of Arbitrators; and Certified Coach.
The Hon. Justice (Rtd) P. Kihara Kariuki was sworn in 2018, April as the 7th Attorney General of the Republic of Kenya. Previously, He served as President of the Court of Appeal of Kenya from 2013 to 2018. Moreover, he has served as Director of the Judiciary Training Institute, Judge of the High Court of Kenya, and Principal and CEO of the Kenya School of Law. Justice (Rtd) Kihara has led a distinguished legal career, having made noteworthy contributions -in particular, the transformation of the Kenyan courts through the engineering of the blueprints that culminated in the Court of Appeal Bill and the Strategic Plan for the Court of Appeal in Kenya. His legal proficiency also extends to civil, commercial and electoral court divisions of which he has considerable expertise. He is an Honorary Legal Advisor of the Anglican Church of Kenya and holds membership in the Law Society of Kenya, The Commonwealth Lawyers Association, The International Bar Association and the Lawyers International Services Agency USA. Justice (Rtd) Kihara attained his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Nairobi and holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
Mr. Ezra Odondi Odhiambo has expertise in strategic planning, business process re-engineering and improvement, change management, project management, telecommunications systems, computer systems, human resource management and design development and implementation of application software. His expertise has been acquired through holding Board positions and undertaking consultancy works such as sugar company operations, financial services, postal services, and telecommunication services among others. He is a member of the Board of Directors at Chemelil Sugar Company. Previously, he has served as a Member of the Board of Directors of National Irrigation Board 2016-2017; Kenya National Bureau of Statistics 2014-2016; Netcom Information System Ltd 1992 to date; BOMAS of Kenya 2004-2007; Kokuro Secondary School 2003-2006. He also served as Chairman, Apex Construction Company Ltd 2013-2017; Executive Committee Member, Information Standards Technology Association (Kenya) 1992-1997. He is a member of Computer Society of Kenya.
